The Best Standing Desk Is The One You Start Using The Soonest

That's why Spark is designed to be inexpensive and easy to set up in a few minutes (not to mention the durability and solid ergonomics!).

Sitting is a really bad position. In addition to pain, stiffness, and fatigue, the sedentary nature of sitting reduces blood flow substantially, likely increasing the risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. It also promotes chronic degradation of your back by placing unnatural forces on your discs while simultaneously starving them of nutrients through lack of movement.

Standing is a fantastic first step to address this, but it's difficult to get started unless you're willing to work at a shaky pile of books and boxes or open your wallet for a big expense.

That's where Spark comes in. It's the perfect "start standing now" standing desk.

The two-level arrangement provides separate support surfaces for your keyboard/mouse and screen. That means your back, shoulders, wrists, and neck can all be in healthy positions at the same time.

The incredibly clever origami-style cardboard design results in an unbelievably robust standing desk. Spark can easily support even heavy all-in-one computers, and never wobbles or shakes during use.

Custom-color-finished, double-wall corrugated cardboard is the perfect material for the perfect "start standing now" desk. It ships flat, reducing carbon footprint and cost. The assembly process is fun, fast, and easy. And when you're done, you have an ergonomic, attractive, and stable standing desk at a shockingly low price.

With a standing desk like Spark, we've removed all excuses not to try standing. Isn't it time you tried standing at work?

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Spark made out of Cardboard?
When we started on Spark, we wanted the perfect starter standing desk. That meant it had to be inexpensive, durable, stable, and provide solid ergonomics. When well designed, a cardboard desk delivered on all four of those requirements with ease. And Spark isn't just made of any old cardboard - it's double-wall corrugated with a custom color finish.
What size Spark should I buy?
You just need to consider two variables: your height and the height of your base desk. We assume a base desk height of 29" because that's what most desks are. If you're using a table or countertop instead, give it a quick measure and use that to adjust the height ranges. This is the standard size chart: | Under 5'4" = Small | 5'4"-5'11" = Medium | Over 5'11" = Large |. So if you're 5'7", you'd typically get a Medium. But if you measure your base desk at 34" (5" over our assumption), your effective height relative to that abnormally tall desk is shorter (5'7" - 5" = 5'2"), so you'll want to get a Small.
What are the dimensions of Spark?
All sizes have roughly the same footprint of 14" x 13", with upper level surface dimensions of 15” x 10” and keyboard tray surface dimensions of 26” x 9” (26" x 10.5" for the Large). Here are the the two height levels (keyboard level / laptop and monitor level) for all three sizes: | Sm: 6.3″ / 14″ | Med: 9.4″ / 17.3″ | Lrg: 12.6″ / 22.8″ |
Can I put my giant monitor on it?
We recommend a max weight of 25lbs on the upper level of Spark, which is enough for almost all modern monitors and even most all-in-one computers (the 27" iMac is fine, for example).
Can I use Spark with two monitors?
The weight is no issue, but Spark is only wide enough to support one monitor or laptop at a time. Some people have been ordering an extra Spark to support their external monitor. We've also had requests for a wider dual-monitor version. If you'd like that, please click here to send us an email letting us know!
How can I buy Spark internationally?
Availability varies, but you can sometimes purchase Small and Medium Sparks on Amazon internationally. For Large, we recommend Stackry. You may need the shipping dimensions, which are listed on this page. They each weigh ~5 lbs in packaging.
Do I need an external keyboard to use Spark?
We always recommend that standing desk laptop users have an external keyboard for proper ergonomics (see the best recommendations at Perfect Ergo). Otherwise, you'll either be typing like a T-Rex (with your hands up near your face), or craning your neck to see down to your screen. That said, Spark ships with parts to build an alternate "laptop-only" configuration that only has one level, so you can use Spark with only a laptop, though we only recommend that for hotel rooms and coffee shops (not your real office).
Is there a Spark for left-handed use?
For all three sizes of Spark, the keyboard tray is reversible (it flips over) for left-handed use. Simply click the option for left-handed setup in Step 5 of Spark's online instructions.
